The kitchen is an important area of any home - it's where meals are cooked, prepared, cleaned, and more.

When thinking about how to make the kitchen a safer place, it's important to keep in mind how much cooking and working in a kitchen might mean to the person with dementia. For many, cooking is an essential part of their identity and while safety is the focus, it's also important to respect this part of them. In serious cases, however, you may need to think about disabling the stove or oven to prevent fires or other dangers. Naturally, other kitchen appliances and utensils could also prove to be a potential danger as well.


What ways could you make the kitchen safer? We focused here on the stove/oven, but it's also important to think about other items in the kitchen, like knives, appliances, as well as pots and pans. How could you better equip the kitchen today to be safe for use?
